National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the return of HalloBoobies!

posted by:

It is almost the greatest time of the year. No, not Christmas, OCTOBER. Why is October so special?

Because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month! That time of the year where everyone comes together like the best bra you’ve ever owned to support the boobies of women (and men) everywhere!

And the best part is, there are so many ways you can get involved!

The National Race for the Cure

Every year the people at Susan G. Komen hold the Race for the Cure and is the worlds largest and most successful fundraising event to benefit Breast Cancer research and support.

To find a local event near you click here.

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Avon will be holding a 2 day, 39 mile walk this October in both Charlotte, and New York. The money raised will support breast cancer screening for both men and women, and treatment, regardless of the patients ability to pay.

To find out more click here.

Susan G. Komen 3 day for The Cure

This is a 60 mile 3 day walk that helps the fight against breast cancer by raising money and offering a great community of survivors and supporters.

If you want to more info click here.

So many other ways to participate!

If you can’t join in any events for any reason there are so many other wys you can participate in Breast Cancer Awareness month. Something as simple as buying a pink ribbon pin (I like this one), click for the cure every day (and tell your friends to as well), or even hold a Pink Party, and raise money to donate to your fave breast cancer charity!

Every little thing helps, and it all adds up to something BIG!

But wait… there’s more…

Yep more, and it’s so exciting I had to save it till last…

We are holding another #HalloBoobies competition this year!!!!

If you weren’t around for our last HalloBoobies contest you can check out the old post here.

Basically your mission is to give your cleavage a Halloween costume. Dress ‘em up anyway you like, (the more creative the better) and send a picture of it over to us! Either post it on your twitter and tell us by sending an @ to @boobiewed and include the hashtag #halloboobies -OR- email it to us at -OR- shoot it over to us at our Facebook page.

You can enter once a week. we will start taking entries on the 29th of September, and the comptetion will close on the 26th of October. Weekly entries will run from Thursday morning to Tuesday evening, winners will be picked on Wednesday. We will also be announcing the grand prize winner on 2nd of November.

Now, I know you’re all asking, what’s the prize? We will be giving away a weekly prize courtesy of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and we’ll also be giving away a grand prize from our very own Boobie Wednesday store!

We will accept entrants from all over the globe, but we can only ship weekly prizes to residents of the US  (sorry everyone else), but we will ship the grand prize anywhere in the world, so make sure you still submit your entries!!

We’re really looking forward to this years competition, and we hope you are too! Make sure you spread the word! And don’t forget to give your boobies a feel so cancer won’t steal ;)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month! By Guest writer @WookiesGirl

October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I am very excited!

I’m a huge supporter of the #boobiewednesday movement to raise awareness and promote self-exams on Twitter. I gladly support the weekly hashtag event with avatars of my cleavage. I do this because although, yes I am proud of my breasts, I also do it because it’s a worthy and very important cause. Early detection is crucial. Men and women need to perform self exams regularly. I had a short conversation with one of the co-founders of #boobiewednesday this morning, @shimmer418. We were discussing ideas for a making a special hashtag for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We felt it best to leave it up to the fans and supporters to make suggestions.

The #boobiewednesday team is inviting you to send in your suggestions for October’s special hashtag!

We will choose the winner on this week’s #boobiewednesday, October 6th.

I get to help pick the winning tag. What a huge honor!

Send in your suggestions Lovelies!  I, for one, look forward to seeing how creative you all can be!

Love and kisses,

BC Treatments and Be A Designer Competition

posted by:

Most of our posts on here relate to prevention and early detection. Well today our post is about some of the treatments available for those who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

When I googled this a lot of the pages I found where companies trying to sell their own products, so I turned to the ever reliable WedMD.

Now the stages of breast cancer rate from stage 0 to stage 4. The average survival rate for a stage 0 diagnosis is 100%, where as stage 4 diagnosis is usually terminal, which is why its important to do your BSE’s!

Here’s a list of typical treatments:

  • Surgery is a standard. For smaller tumors, you might get a lumpectomy, in which only the abnormal cells and some of the tissue are removed. Some women choose a mastectomy, in which the entire breast is removed. After a mastectomy, you might choose to have breast reconstruction surgery.
  • Radiation therapy is standard treatment after a lumpectomy. Radiation therapy attacks any abnormal cells that might have been missed and decreases the risk of another cancer.
  • Hormone therapy with tamoxifen after surgery may also help prevent cancer from developing in the same or opposite breast.
  • Bilateral mastectomy — the removal of both breasts — is another option. Some women choose this approach because they are worried about getting cancer. They might have certain risk factors, like a strong family history of breast cancer. After surgery, you might choose to get breast reconstruction surgery. However, experts think that a bilateral mastectomy is a more extreme approach than women usually need.
  • Chemotherapy is treatment with drugs that attack cancer cells. It’s often used after surgery to lower the risk of the cancer coming back. Women who had larger tumors are more likely to need it.
  • Biological therapy is another approach. In about 25% of women with breast cancer, an excess of a protein known as HER2 makes the cancer spread quickly. Herceptin is a new drug that’s been approved to treat women with metastatic breast cancer that is HER2 positive. It stops this protein from making the cancer grow and makes chemotherapy more effective. It is most often used in combination with chemotherapy. Studies have led to its use in early breast cancer.
  • Clinical trials A clinical trial may allow you access to cutting-edge treatments. Many new therapies — new drugs, new treatments, and new combinations — are in clinical trials now. Keep in mind that any successful treatment we have now started out in a clinical trial.
  • Other drugs may also help treat some of the side effects of breast cancer treatment, such as nausea, fatigue, and infections.

So for any of you who ever wanted to know the options, whether for yourself or a family member, that’s the standard list.

Just remember that every cancer is different, every patient is different, so every treatment is different. What worked for your friend might not work for you. Make sure you have good communication with your doctor and be open to their suggestions.

Ok, now that we’ve covered our serious issue for the week, we can get to the fun. Yes, FUN! Boobie Wednesday is bringing you a new competition! (Competition is now closed).

Basically, we’ve been asking you guys for AGES to help us come up with designs for the t-shirts at the Boobie Wednesday store, and some of your ideas have been great! Unfortunately, neither myself nor my partner in crime have the necessary resources to actually make the designs ourselves, so we’re giving you the floor!

So here’s the details. We need a t-shirt design, related to breast cancer awareness, and/or Boobie Wednesday and it must be (this is very important) ORIGINAL. We cannot accept entries that are reminiscent of any other campaign logos, or slogans or anything like that.

Secondly, it needs to be on a transparent background, and preferably saved in PNG format. Also to bigger you can make it the better. :)

If you’ve got all that done, send it to us at

What does the winner get, you ask? The winner gets to see their design in the Boobie Wednesday store! (AND you’ll have good karma, because all the money we raise from selling your design will go to the NBCF).

So get creative and get em in! We’ll be closing the competition on February 1oth, so you’ve got about a month to get your entry in.

Good luck!
